AW14 \ 'V'
Titled “V” (vendetta) Autumn winter 14 is inspired from Word Sound Power's Blood Earth project which is a New Delhi based collective that constructs multimedia collaborations with South Asian artists on issues of social justice.
Visual references are drawn from Dongria Kondh tribe of South Western Orissa which resisted the corporate takeover of Niyamgiri hills for bauxite mining. The collection pans the idea of development at the cost of human abandonment / crony capitalism and celebrates India s first environmental referendum where in the Judiciary decided in favour of the Kondhs.
Engineered hand woven fabrics have been developed in monofilament silks along with cotton, stainless steel and wool.
Hand woven entirely at akaaro studios in Delhi with natural yarns the collection consists of separates inspired from industrial work wear and draping referring to the local’s way of dressing. Outerwear in wools along with pashmina like cottons in earthy browns creates conflict with warm pop colours like purples and bright yellows.
