Akaaro is a textile-led design studio founded by woven textile designer Gaurav Jai Gupta. The work begins at the loom, where material is developed through an ongoing exploration of structure, surface, and weave.
Working from an in-house studio loom and in collaboration with specialised weaving clusters across India, Akaaro treats woven textiles as precise design systems. Through continuous experimentation with materials, weave structures, and metallic yarns, the studio develops fabrics where colour, texture, pattern, and luminosity are constructed directly within the architecture of the cloth.Garments evolve from these textiles.
Proportion, movement, and silhouette are informed by the behaviour of the material, allowing the logic of the weave to guide form.
Over time, Akaaro has contributed to bringing woven textile design into a contemporary fashion context without framing it as spectacle or nostalgia. Instead, the studio presents handwoven material with clarity and restraint, allowing the intelligence of the textile itself to remain at the centre of the work.
Rooted in India’s deep weaving knowledge yet articulated through a modern design sensibility, Akaaro builds a wardrobe where textile innovation and clothing exist as one continuous act of design.
